I teach grade one at The Learning Center School. This is my first year at TLC and my first year in Qatar. I moved to Qatar from Washington, D.C. in the United States. I went to American University in Washington and taught elementary school there for seven years. I have an undergraduate degree in literature and a graduate degree in Special Education with a concentration in learning disabilities. The majority of my teaching experience has been with first and second grade aged children who are facing academic challenges in reading, writing, spelling, and math.
I believe that all children can learn and that they learn best when tasks are broken down into manageable parts and they are given appropriate instruction and coaching. I also believe that students need to feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment in order

This is my first year teaching in The Learning Center School. However, it is in fact my twenty fifth year of teaching here in Qatar! I was born, brought up and educated in Northern Ireland but have spent most of my career abroad teaching in England, France and Spain. When I'm not teaching I can be found either out on the golf course or working in my garden.

I have taught in many parts of the world in my career, beginning in San Diego, California. Since then my husband and I have taught in the Pacific island of Guam, Yugoslavia, China, Costa Rica and now here in Qatar. I have taught kindergarten through Grade 6 in Middle School and am now very happy to be here teaching Grade 5.
I believe that a child who feels safe is a child who can learn and grow. It is important to me to create a warm, supportive yet structured class atmosphere. I have also been very involved with environmental education for many years and through that, I bring a sense of caring about the world around us to my students.
