The Learning Center

Grades 9 to 12

Mr Estrella

I have been teaching for ten years in different capacities and at different grade levels. I have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, a Master's degree in Latin American Studies and a teaching certificate in Social Studies Composite. My first teaching position was working for a private school in a suburb of Houston, Texas teaching at the 6th grade level in Social Studies. The following year I moved to the Houston public school system and onto high school 9-12. I taught a variety of courses ranging from AP Economics to ESL Government, History and English. After completing 4 years there I applied for a teaching position abroad and obtained a job in the United Arab Emirates-Abu Dhabi. I worked there for years teaching Commerce, Economics, World/U.S. History, IB Economics, and Theory of Knowledge (IB). In my capacity here at The Learning Center School I am teaching a variety of classes all within the realm of social studies from grades 9-12. I enjoy both the students and the ever-expanding city of Doha, Qatar

Mr Smith

I've taught English in Japan and worked in several schools in the United States. This is my first year at The Learning Center, and I'm enjoying it immensely. I teach high school English and Study/Organizational Skills. I feel extremely fortunate to be working here with such eager students and a caring faculty, and I look forward to sharing new adventures here at The Learning Center School and in the Middle East.

Ms Flynn

I was born and brought up in the south-east of England. I gained a B.Ed degree from the University of Hull and an MA degree from the University of London. I taught for many years in England before coming to Doha to teach in August 2002. My subjects include Economics, Business, Mathematics and Geography at High School level.  I currently teach High School Math.  I am very keen on sports, especially tennis and swimming, and I like to travel.

Mr Myers

I currently serve TLCS in the capacity of Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Coordinator. This is my first overseas teaching assignment. I have taught P.E. and Health Education, and provided Special Education services to students with learning challenges in the United States public and private secondary schools since 1985. At one point I also worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer for several years. I also enjoy coaching sport, with my preferred athletic events being: Basketball and Track/Field. My educational degrees are in the following areas: B.S. in Health/Physical Education/Recreation (Oklahoma Panhandle State University-Goodwell, Oklahoma), M.S. in Secondary/Higher Education (Texas A&M-Commerce-Commerce, Texas), and a M.Ed. with a concentration in Special Education (Our Lady of The Lake University-San Antonio, Texas). My future plans are to pursue a doctorate in Sport Management and Leadership Studies.

Mr Corwin

I have had the privilege of teaching in four countries before I arrived to live in Qatar and work at The Learning Center School. I taught ESL to adults in Slovakia and South Korea. The next stop was a big one. I moved to Taiwan and taught ESL to Chinese children. I lived there for five years. After spending a few years in the U.S., I taught Middle School English in Istanbul, Turkey. I teach grades 9-12 at the Learning Center. I find international education to be an intriguing life because of its reciprocity: I teach knowledge to my students and learn knowledge from my experiences in a foreign country. I look forward to expanding the parameters of knowledge for both my students and me at The Learning Center School.

Mr Wilson

I have been teaching science since 1987. Prior to that, I spent 14 years in the construction industry. I have earned a BA in Industrial Technology and a MS in Science Education. I have designed and implemented curricular units in all branches of science. My wife and I have taught in Guam, Yugoslavia, China, Costa Rica and now here in Qatar.I love learning about the world around me.I try to make science fun and active but also view it as a challenging thinking skill. Not all students will go into science as a career, but each is faced with decisions everyday that require an understanding of basic scientific principles. I hope to add to the student's ability to make thoughtful and informed decisions.
