About The Learning Center

The Learning Center (TLC) in Qatar; a private nonprofit international educational community was founded in 1996 by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Qatar Foundation was founded in 1995 by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir and Head of State of Qatar, and Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned.

In 2002, TLC expanded its mission to include The Learning Center School (TLCS), offering a comprehensive program for students in grades 1-12. The curriculum includes: math, English, social studies, science, Arabic, Islamic studies, art, IT, health and physical education. The TLCS diploma is recognized by the Equivalency Department of the Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Each grade level accepts up to ten students, allowing for small group learning environments, and further enabling students to achieve overall personal excellence. The school offers a low student-to-teacher ratio, providing an optimum setting for more personalized instruction.

All students seeking admittance to TLCS complete a comprehensive psycho-educational assessment to evaluate their learning potential, current levels of educational achievement, and specific academic strengths and weaknesses. Students must have average or above average learning potential, a history of problems that have interfered with academic success, and no history of major behavioral problems. As English is the primary language of instruction, students must also be able to demonstrate basic interpersonal communication skills in English. While the majority of the students are Qatari, enrollment in TLCS is open to all who meet the criteria for admissions. Applications are accepted throughout the year, space permitting.

Each student is provided an Alternative Education Plan (AEP). This plan outlines current skill levels, defines measurable objectives and provides a baseline and plan for improvement in the students' academic achievement. This plan is reviewed each year and approved by parents. TLCS emphasizes the importance of parents and teachers working closely together. The school values parental involvement and works to communicate and provide opportunities for parents' participation in their child's education.

TLC continues to offer outreach to the community through a Spring Workshop Series to promote public understanding and knowledge of current research in child development, teaching and parenting techniques.
